Research programme

The Chair supervises research students at Reims Management School, and actively encourages international research students who wish to explore aspects of the business of champagne.

We also welcome researchers from other institutions who would like to develop research interests which focus on the management, marketing, economics, finance and strategic development of champagne, as well as the social context of the region.

The research programme for the Chair of Champagne Management aims to combine both theoretical and applied research – that is, research that is of benefit both to academics and to the champagne industry.  There are three themes which form the focus for the Chair.  These are:

  • Managing Champagne as a Regional Brand
  • Marketing Quality
  • Adapting to Changing Markets
These themes provide the context for the four major research projects which the Chair is launching in 2007.
  • Creating and managing value – looking at adding value and the economics of quality, as well as financial models in the champagne industry.
  • Managerial expertise amongst recoltants-manipulants – examining how the smaller producers organise and run their businesses.
  • The changing wine consumer, focusing especially on emerging markets both overseas and looking at younger wine drinkers.
  • Wine tourism in the Champagne region.
The Chair welcomes the opportunity to work with other academics interested in these areas and we also encourage students who may want to research in these fields, within the area of champagne or wine generally, to contact us.
